Why do I paint? Well it’s not because the beauty I constantly see needs revision. It’s more like an escape or a meditation when I paint: I rarely start wtih any ore of an intention than this: I’m going to do something really dark and reallly light. Or I’ll pick two colours and try to stick to those two colours. That never works, by the way, so I start with a small goal, and then I let ‘er rip. Many of my paintings just happen. I’m either working over something that hasn’t quite worked out, and tweaking parts of it, when I stumble on a great texture or colour combo, and run with that inspiration.Inspiration comes from everyday ife; my view from my home is overlooking a vast ravine, so I can see the seasons and the light change constantly. the clouds never quite amusing/amazing me, and at least one sunrise per day is required viewing at our house. having an art corner set up and ready to rock n roll at the drop of a hat is a great thing; it’s cool to know I can make a cuuppa, and walk out there and dip my brush and start painting.I went to the “Nike stole my motto” school of art: just do it. don’t edit while you’re doing it. Follow your thought. and live with it for a few days or weeks. your gut will tell you waht’s good about it.if it leaves you wanting something, reconsider before tackling it.
